How to choose an automatic watch

An automatic movement winds itself from the motion of your wrist, so there is no battery to replace. These are the three things worth knowing before you choose.

01  Winding

Worn, not charged

An automatic watch keeps running as long as you wear it. If it stops after some days off the wrist, wind the crown a few turns or wear it for a while to restart it.

02  Power reserve

How long it keeps running

The power reserve is how long a fully wound watch runs when it is not worn. We state it in the listing where known, for example about 40 to 42 hours on several Seiko and Citizen models and 80 hours on the Hamilton Khaki Field.

03  Care

Accuracy and servicing

A mechanical watch can gain or lose a few seconds a day, and it benefits from a service every few years. The listing states the condition and anything that was renewed.

Are these watches genuine?

Yes. If a watch is found not to be authentic, or arrives broken or not working, you get a full refund (see Shipping & Returns). DAR is an independent dealer and is not affiliated with the brands it sells.

Are they new or pre-owned?

Both. Each watch carries a condition label on its photo and the listing states the condition. Brand-new watches come with their original box and papers; pre-owned and vintage watches are watch only unless the listing says a box is included.

What does delivery cost?

We deliver across the UAE: AED 30 to Dubai and AED 50 to the other Emirates, added at checkout. Prices are in dirhams and include VAT.

Do automatic watches need a battery?

No. The movement is wound by the motion of your wrist and by the crown. Quartz watches are the ones that use a battery.
